Essays # 2
Oak leaves on showcase
75 x 75 cm
Santiago, Chile
2024

Essays # 2 is a device for exercises, play and error, where the oak leaves may be re-configured by the artist in search for new narratives. The work emerges out of seven small oak leaves which have been either folded of cut out. The folds and cuts follow along the nerves of the leaves, which serve as origami guidelines. The proposed composition moves between the abstract and the figurative, subtly hinting at landscape landmarks such as trees, bushes or birds taking flight.

The leaves are not glued to the background, allowing them to be re-arranged as the pieces of a game board, for other compositions to emerge alongside other imagined tellings.

This work was developed whilst in residency at AIR Galpón / Galpón Independencia, Chile.
